location and lighting

As my film is about shooting close up shots, lighting is key in order for it to turn out clear. I also want a homely atmosphere for the film as it is about my mother doing clients nails, i want the viewer to think it is a comfortable setting. 

I would need somewhere with good large windows so as much natural light can be used as possible. 

research

picture nail tutorial - clear lighting, close up shots, informative, clear.

focus is on the design, framed well by other nails, good depth of field, drawn into the picture, bright attractive colours.

MUSIC

I have thought about what song i could use for my film. I will need something with a steady beat, not too fast or too slow as it would need to match the speed of the actions in the footage.

I thought that an instrumental piece would work best as it wouldn't distract the viewer from the information on screen.

Before I complete my shot list I must understand in what order the manicure is carried out. It is important for me to know each step before shooting in order for me to be prepared and to know what I need to do next.

In order, these are the steps that will be carried out:

•  Sanitise the hand with spray
• File nails into shape
•  Apply cuticle oil
•  Soak nails in finger bowl
• Push back cuticles
• Brush down the nails
• Apply a base coat
• Paint the nails of preferred colour
• Apply top coat
• Allow to dry
• Apply cuticle oil when dry
• Rub gentle into fingers
• Nails are completed

Colour Correction

A beautiful task

For my film i have decided to choose the 'A beautiful task' brief.

I love photography and have had experience in moving image before and feel that i could use my skills to shoot a wide range of shots and edit them in such a way that something simple can be viewed as quite interesting.

i started watching short films and tutorials to give me some inspiration and ideas.

http://www.shortoftheweek.com/2013/02/20/to-this-day/ - i found this and thought it was brilliant. it has such a smoothness between shots, the narration and the movement of the camera. it builds up continuously.

I thought about what i like, what i enjoy doing and what i have access to. I love make-up and my mum is currently training to be a nail technician so i thought this would look well visually with all the different colours and equipment that is used when painting nails.
